NPH Switches to Hybrid Vans in New 4-Year Fleet Contract Awarded to SFS
Northamptonshire Partnership Homes (NPH) has awarded a new four-year contract to Specialist Fleet Services (SFS) to supply and maintain a fleet of 63 hybrid-electric vans and 7 larger vehicles with improved carbon emissions. This marks a significant step forward in refining NPH’s repairs service while reducing environmental impact.
The new contract replaces NPH’s ageing fleet, which has increasingly faced higher maintenance demands, rising repair costs and operational inefficiencies. By moving to a hybrid-electric fleet, NPH will deliver a more reliable and cost-effective service for residents, ensuring repairs teams can continue to operate efficiently across the town.
Winston Williams, NPH Executive Director of Operations and Deputy CEO, explained the significance of the contract: “The award of this new fleet contract represents an important investment in the future of our repairs service and demonstrates our commitment to delivering reliable, efficient and sustainable services for our residents.
As our previous contract approached its conclusion, we undertook a thorough assessment of our operational requirements to ensure we secured a fleet solution that not only meets the demands of today but also supports our long-term ambitions. Specialist Fleet Services has provided a solution that will enhance the resilience of our frontline operations, improve vehicle reliability and deliver greater value for money over the life of the contract.

“The introduction of a hybrid fleet strikes the right balance between maintaining a responsive repairs service and reducing our environmental impact. Whilst we remain committed towards reducing our carbon footprint, we have taken a pragmatic approach that recognises the current infrastructure challenges associated with a fully electric fleet. This investment enables us to reduce carbon emissions now, while ensuring our teams can continue to provide the high-quality service our residents expect.
Ultimately, this is an investment in both our people and our communities, ensuring our repairs teams have the tools they need to deliver an effective service, while supporting NPH’s wider commitment to sustainability, operational excellence and continuous improvement.”
This investment is expected to generate cost savings over the contract term. As the previous fleet aged, the frequency and complexity of repairs led to increased downtime and escalating maintenance costs. The introduction of newer, hybrid vehicles will reduce these pressures, improve fleet reliability and lower ongoing servicing and fuel costs.
Specialist Fleet Services will provide full fleet management under the contract, including all maintenance, out of hours servicing and ongoing support, helping NPH maintain high operational standards while minimising downtime.
The new fleet is expected to be rolled out over the coming months, with a phased delivery ensuring a smooth transition from the existing vehicles and no disruption to frontline services.
